Service Description

Step into the Rhythm of Tradition with Thappattam! Date: 25th May Time: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM Step into the world of Paraiyattam—an ancient and deeply rooted folk art form from Tamil Nadu that brings together drumming, movement, and community spirit. Traditionally used to mark significant moments in village life, Paraiyattam is more than just performance—it's identity, history, and resistance expressed through rhythm. This three-hour workshop will be mentored by Sathya Sharath, a passionate folk artist with over 24 years of experience in Tamil folk forms like Oyilattam, Devarattam, Karagattam, and more. Under his guidance, you’ll: - Discover the cultural significance and evolution of Paraiyattam - Learn to play the parai drum and experiment with its powerful rhythms - Try basic steps and body movements that accompany the beat - Understand how folk traditions connect us to roots, stories, and community Whether you’re a complete beginner or simply curious about the art form, this workshop is open to all. No prior experience is needed—just your interest and energy. Instruments will be provided.
